No More Pain in the Glass
Window washing is one of the most hated household tasks. But glass maker Pilkington has developed Activ, a window glass that cleans itself.
The glass is coated with titanium dioxide, which attracts water and makes it run down the glass in a continuous sheet. That pushes off dirt particles and diffuses dust evenly across the window. Even without water, the glass can clean itself. Exposed to sunlight for several days, the titanium dioxide slowly breaks down organic dirt into carbon dioxide and water vapor.
